Lindt Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts

I really thought this would be better than Lindt’s Milk Chocolate with Hazelnuts, which I really wasn’t wild about.

Unfortunately, it’s not. It’s the softest dark chocolate ever (and I thought dark chocolate was usually firm, if not brittle?) and the taste is unpleasant with a not particularly nice aftertaste that I’m struggling to describe. Give it a miss.

Valor Puro Almendras Dark Chocolate with Almonds

Valor’s dark chocolate bar with whole almonds – I actually quite liked it.

I wasn’t sure the combination of dark chocolate and almonds would work but it does here – it needs the dark chocolate to not be too intense.

Lindt Mint Intense Dark Chocolate

You start with a combination of a chocolate that’s too dark which has had too much mint flavour added, and you’re left with what feels like a never-ending unpleasantly strong mint after-taste.

Avoid.

Seed and Bean Lemon and Cardamom Dark Chocolate

Surprisingly sweet and not bitter dark chocolate bar. Doesn’t hugely taste of either lemon or cardamon – it’s all very subtle and (surprisingly) quite enjoyable with a nice slightly lemony after-taste.

Dark Chocolate Maltesers

Dark Chocolate Maltesers – marketed as the ‘Lighter way to enjoy Dark Chocolate’. The chocolate is thin and bitter and it’s an awful combination with the honeycomb.

Seems to be found only in the Asian-Pacific region, which may be a blessing for the rest of us.

Willie’s Cafe Negro – Dark Chocolate with Coffee

Willie’s Cafe Negro is supposed to be a dark chocolate tasting of ‘smooth sophisticated coffee’. It’s a hard dark chocolate that doesn’t really taste of coffee and is actually quite unpleasant. Had one bite and threw the rest out.

Willie’s Hazelnut and Raisin Dark Chocolate Bar

Hazelnut and raisin and dark chocolate? A match made in heaven surely?

But in this bar, this combination absolutely doesn’t work. The raisins and nuts are chopped too finely and are lost in an overpowering dark chocolate which has a surprisingly long bitter after-taste.
